I’m a final year medical student, with 6 months to go until I become a proper grown-up member of society (and counting).
I currently view my rapidly approaching fledgling doctorhood with curiosity and great apprehension: will my adventures in and out of hospitals turn me into a stereotypical doctor – bitter, twisted and cynical? Will I be able to preserve the optimism about life and compassion towards others which have undoubtedly motivated me to get there in the first place? Or will I simply break under the inevitable physical, mental, emotional and philosophical stress which is part and parcel of a career in medicine? We shall see…
The score so far: optimism 4 ~ reality 6
